How do I get a squirrel out of my wall?

Do you hear all kinds of racket coming from inside your wall? There’s a non-zero chance that you’ve got a squirrel running around behind your drywall causing a huge commotion. You might find it a little alarming to know there’s a critter running through your house, but you should be warned that squirrels are famous chewers, and your wiring and plumbing are not safe from their teeth. At AAAC Wildlife Removal, we are experts at removing squirrels from your walls. Read on to learn how.

What to do when a squirrel is stuck in your wall

Why do squirrels like wall cavities?

Unlike squirrels in your yard, squirrels inside your wall are a much bigger concern!

Wall cavities are perfect for squirrels because they’re a small, enclosed area that will be free from predators. Wall cavities are also nice and warm, much like a little cave.

The cozy wall spaces also make a great nest for raising young squirrels.

Finding The Entry Points The Squirrel Is Using

Like a squirrel infestation anywhere else in the house, one of the main strategies you should use is to discover how the squirrel is getting into the wall.

This means looking for holes in the wall. Broken or chewed vents and openings around the wall’s highest point are signs to search for. It is also worth looking at your attic to see if they are getting in through any holes up there.

Catching The Squirrel

Your squirrel must be caught in order to get it out. There are several options to capture the squirrel live, and there are various traps available on the market that are effective.

However, it’s usually a good idea in a situation like this to talk to professionals like us at AAAC Wildlife Removal! We can get the squirrel out of your wall and repair any damage they left behind.

Excluding The Squirrel

This next step includes analyzing the wall and taking stock of any weaknesses that the squirrels are using to gain entrance.

One effective way to do this would be to use a one way door over the entry hole. When the squirrel leaves out of this pipe, they won’t be able to get back in.

Fixing The Wall Cavity

When you are absolutely sure that you’ve captured, repelled or located any remaining squirrels in the wall, it’s time to make some repairs so that you won’t be in this situation again in the future.

If the squirrels were coming in through damaged vents, ensure that they are fixed or replaced, while any openings in the brickwork should be patched with mortar to ensure that even the most devoted squirrel won’t have the option to bite its way back in.
