How We Restore Your Attic
Pests may not be able to chew through insulation, but they can certainly tear it up. The insulating material becomes more than just bedding: after all, the animals that are tearing at your attic’s barriers will also make a home for themselves in said holes and leave behind their own contaminants like urine and feces. With less insulation integrity these areas allow air to enter or escape, so you are losing money! Here are our steps for attic restoration.
Scoop out Larger Feces Clumps
The first step in an attic restoration project is to remove larger feces left by pests in an attic using hand tools and secure containers. To remove the feces from ceilings and walls, we use a long-handled instrument. If the droppings are dry or stuck on hard surfaces we will soak them in water, and then use a wire brush for scraping them off.
AAAC technicians use an extended handle tool to climb onto the roof of your home to find high-risk areas where squirrels and rats often leave feces. Technicians may have to remove large amounts of droppings from the rafters or eaves in order to safely vacuum it out.
Vacuum Small Feces
Next, remove any rodent feces pellets from an attic. This is the best way of getting rid of small rodent feces from an attic. AAAC uses a specialized machine equipped with a long enough tube that can reach every corner of your attic. This machine has an extra-long vacuum tube and high-velocity suction. HEPA filters are included to remove any animal hair or droppings from insulation and other surfaces. AAAC has a special brush attachment to reach small droppings in tight corners and ceilings. This attachment is designed to reach tight areas, such as corners and areas near the roof.
AAAC uses a UV lamp to locate small feces found in attics. The UV light will show black dots where there are feces from animals like rats, bats, or raccoons.
Air Duct Cleaning & Repair
AAAC Wildlife Control also offers air duct restoration and repair services to remove animal hair, droppings, and urine from the ductwork. AAAC uses a specialized tool to clean and remove any debris from the inside of the air ducts. Once that is completed, we can spray a disinfectant over the ducts to kill any bacteria, viruses, or rodents that may have been left behind.
Decontaminate the Attic
After removing the rodents, the main part of an attic reconstruction project is decontamination. This is an extremely important part of any attic restoration project. It’s done in order to protect your family against microbial pathogens which could be harmful if inhaled.
For this part of the attic restoration service, AAAC Wildlife Removal uses a special UV light to find areas contaminated with rodents and other animal droppings. The technicians will then apply a disinfectant spray and clean up any animal feces.
AAAC Wildlife Removal will fog up the attic using a fine mist in order to kill microorganisms from animal feces. The electric atomizer sprayer creates a cloud of microscopic droplets that cannot be seen by the human eye. As the droplets evaporate, they produce a chemical residue that’s toxic to microorganisms such as algae, molds, bacteria, and viruses.
Drying is an important part of the attic restoration process as any moisture left behind can cause mold growth. AAAC may use a humidifier to remove moisture from insulation and attic wood. This can also prevent mold growth from occurring during the re-insulation of the attic.
Full Attic Insulation Replacement
To complete this part of the restoration service, technicians will perform insulation removal and then install brand new insulation. To prevent damage to neighboring areas or leaving a mess, it is essential that the old insulation be removed carefully. Insulation is wrapped around joists or rafters, so you must be careful not to pull it too hard.
Mold spores and other hazardous substances can be found in the insulation and released into the air when removed. Our technicians are required to wear masks in order not to breathe in any dangerous particles or substances that could get into the ducts.
After the old insulation is removed, the technicians will put new insulation in place. The insulation must fit snugly around rafters or joists. Although cutting things close can lead to some leftover insulation. Also, the technicians use masking tape to secure everything during installation.
What is full attic restoration?
Attic restoration involves restoring the functionality and appearance of an attic. Attic restoration includes insulation, decontamination, and the removal of waste.
Attics lose their ability to insulate over time due to accumulated dust, animal droppings or ice accumulation. This loss of insulation allows more energy to be lost through your home than if the insulation had been left intact. The decontamination process begins with using fans throughout interior areas that have been affected by moisture such as closets or bathrooms where there has been leakage from the water carrying away dirt and dust.
How do you disinfect an attic?
Remove old insulation. Use an ultraviolet sterilizer and disinfectant to decontaminate it. Finally, sanitize the area to kill bacteria. To prevent reinfection, you must clean all surfaces that come in direct contact with the contaminated material.
The process begins with removing insulation to ensure efficient and safe disinfecting. To remove bacteria and mold from wood joists, rafters, and other surfaces, attic restoration requires a powerful suction system. The biocides wash-down kills any remaining mold and leaves behind antimicrobial compounds that will prevent future mold and mildew growth. Lastly, light sterilization disinfects the area with ultraviolet lights similar to those used in hospitals.
